History
History Dutch NMRDG
In 1964 organic chemists in the Spectrometry Discussion group Netherlands (SDN) applying NMR indicated their interest to strengthen their interaction with researchers developing magnetic resonance methods. They discussed this with the Workgroup Magnetic Resonance (WMR), which organized regular meetings for mostly physicists.
As an outcome a section of the WMR for applications of magnetic resonance in organic chemistry was established. To enhance the scientific exchange between chemists and physicists this section would organize meetings focussed on applications of magnetic resonance. A first meeting was held by the WMR at the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry of the University of Amsterdam on Feb 25, 1965. In 1969 the section continued as the Discussion Group Magnetic Resonance (in Organic Chemistry) of the Section Analytical Chemistry of the KNCV. This set the frame for the Dutch NMR Discussion Group.
Up to 2000 the Dutch NMR-DG held each year several gatherings: from 1966-2000 there were more than 50 events. Since 1996 the Dutch NMR-DG meets annually. In 2000 it celebrated its 35th annual symposium in Nijmegen. The Dutch NMR-DG also hosted international events, such as the 10th EENC in 1990 in Veldhoven and the first Euromar, a joint EENC with Dutch and UK NMR-DG's, in 2005 in Veldhoven. Together with the Belgian, German and French magnetic resonance communities, the Dutch NMR-DG organized meetings in Blankenberge (2006) and Münster (2010).
